A few years back, I had booked SAN-LHR after the 747s were retired, so SAN lost F and I was booked in J. The aircraft at the time of booking was a 4 class 777, with the F cabin showing blocked and not for sale. Half on the off chance that F would be offered for sale again, or perhaps FLUB would occur, I set an EF alert for 1A/K. A few months before the flight, EF sent an alert and I thought “too early for FLUB”, so F must be back. Nope. Switched to an A350 without F, so J only and 1A/K were available for selection.
To my shame, it’s the first time since the days of cradle seats that I’ve flown BA J long haul. I once had a round trip to MAD on a 777 with CW ying yang seating, and that was enough to tell me I’d made the right decision to always fly F on BA whenever possible ;-).

So it is with some trepidation I’m embarking on this trip: had I been on my own, I’d have gone to SEA in F and connected, but I don’t want to put my father through all that rigmarole.
