Fair point. Thanks for the reminder on last minute drops. I was about to book Sheraton Sydney for ~155,000 which I already thought was a good deal. When I went to book the next day it was down to 129,000. I saved $300 USD or so off cash rates which is an extraordinary deal.
Points are still valuable if you can do the book 5 for price of 4. This is a great Marriott benefit because Hyatt doesn't offer this.
The points rate I had in Singapore westin 2 weeks ago was an amazing redemption rate. Far superior to Andaz redemption rate. I ended up canceling the westin and paying cash at Andaz because the cash rate was so low and I wanted to requalify for Globalist.
What I find odd is how cheap Hyatt is compared to Marriott in some locations - NYC, Singapore for examples for my recent trips - while in other cities Marriott is so much cheaper like Beijing and Hong Kong. Doesn't make any sense to me.
