Top End of Nagoya Hotels, Centrally Located.
Introduction The Nagoya Marrott Associa is located on the top floor of the main Nagoya station, which is extremely convenient if coming here by bullet train. From exiting the Shinkansen gates to your room is about 7-10 min depending on how crowded the station is. That's pretty unbeatable in terms of location. This is one of the top luxury hotels in the city as others have pointed out. Check In Our Bullet train from Tokyo was straight-up canceled the first night of our stay due to heavy rains. (Something to consider when traveling by train, especially during the rainy season is delay's and cancelations) Thankfully the hotel didn't charge us for the first night while we were stuck in Tokyo. We Hopped on the train the next afternoon and arrived at check-in at 3pmThere is no check-in at the lounge, but there was hardly any wait for the elite check-in line. We were treated in English and thanked us for our loyalty. We requested a high floor larger concierge room via chat, and that was pre-confirmed before our arrival which was very nice. Currently, the suites are under renovation. The elite benefits were clearly laid out for us, as well as the lounge benefits. Like others have said breakfast is in the 36F lounge. There is a much nicer and more exclusive concierge lounge on the main lobby floor only for Ambassadors and if your room includes it. We were unable to pay for access as Titanium. It looks much nicer with a lot better food options. In addition, access to the gym and spa are an upcharge for platinum and titanium with ambassitors included for free. Room The first room we got was a "corner" room but really was shaped as an oval as the building is round. There were 3 windows all slightly curved. Unfortunately, the JR tower blocked any view of the city or train station. Also the walls shook and you could hear trains below you all the way from the 40th floor! I recommend you avoid these rooms at all costs. We called the front desk to request a new room, which they gladly agreed to. Within 30 min, 2 staff members knocked on our door to escort us to the new room along with our bags. What service! The new room had 2 bigger windows but had a great view of the city and the train station underneath. The rumbling from the trains was completely absent on this 45th floor. If you don't get the room you want, just ask the hotel to move! the worst they can say is no. The room is older, but extremely well kept, and very large for Japan standards. I enjoyed the 2 work spaces as well as the tablet to control lights. Dining The 34th-floor lounge had a small spread of prepared and hot foods for evening cocktail hour. Lots of drinks and beverages. Strangely no still water bottles, though they had glasses of sparkling water. Breakfast was strictly Western style, which was fine for what we needed. Though those wanting traditional Japanese style might want to pay for breakfast in the restaurant that offers both Western and Asian options. We did not try this out.Nightcap did not include any food, just drinks. Location The station is easily connected to other parts of the city. There is a main bus terminal just a few min walk from the hotel exit. We used this to take a city bus to the new Ghibli park. The price is much higher here compared to other hotels, but you are really paying for the location and high city views with this property above all else. Overall If I was ever in Nagoya I would stay here no question. Depending on the events, there might by a compelling reason to make a day trip here from Tokyo and stay the night. During our stay in June, where were many events including historical reenactments of ancient samurai battles, a major Atsuta shrine festival with fireworks, and a chicken wing style night market and competition festival. (Nagoya is known for chicken wings)This being said, Nagoya has some catching up to do in terms of tourism attractions. I wish other brands would come to the city to give Marriott competition.
