My brother is a priest, but he rarely (if ever) travels in his clerical "garb". He always carries his credentials with him, but that's about it - unless he is performing a clerical function (family wedding, baptism, etc.). Under those circumstances, he dresses as a "civilian" and packs the garments he will need. I think you did a very nice thing, too and I would have done the same thing (16 years of Catholic school, you know... ). However, I think the majority of clergy would be fine with pointing out the discrepancy, error, whatever term seems to fit. I think it boils down to what makes us most comfortable (no pun intended). Some people are reasonable and some are not......and that goes for clergy too.....we're all human, after all.
