I should add... This process is why I find Hyatt the superior loyalty program. If I used points (not cash) to book for my family at Hyatt, I wouldn't receive night credits but my family would receive my Globalist elite tier benefits like free breakfasts and room upgrades.
With Marriott, they receive nothing but the room that I booked into, ie a standard room.
Guest of Honor at Hyatt is a nice benefit if you are a Glob, but it is fairly unique. I don’t think airlines give your giftee any of your status benefits if you book them with your miles. And is there really a logical reason for why someone booked with your points should also get your elite benefits? They don’t get those benefits, after all, if you pay for them with cash.
