I should add... This process is why I find Hyatt the superior loyalty program. If I used points (not cash) to book for my family at Hyatt, I wouldn't receive night credits but my family would receive my Globalist elite tier benefits like free breakfasts and room upgrades.
With Marriott, they receive nothing but the room that I booked into, ie a standard room.
After using these points for my family visiting Canada, as well as a 5 nighter in Sydney in October and a short one nighter in US next week, I will have less than 1000 Marriott points. I finally used all my points up after merger because the elite benefits have been so watered down. I haven't had a paid stay in 3 years if I recall correctly. Just been using my points as fast as possible in light of devaluations.
