The difference in price between the 7-day and 14-day green car national JR passes is Y24,520 if buying through the cheaper channel. A 5-day JR East Tohoku area pass costs Y20,000. So getting 2 days less travel overall, and having 5 days travel in ordinary cars rather than green cars, would only save Y4,520. So probably not worth the hassle, unless staying for over two weeks and wanting to plan a break between the validity periods of the two passes.
