You should not have any problem getting the points for all your spending, even if beyond your credit limit. When Starwood AMEX had the double points promo a year or two ago and savings bonds could still be purchased via credit card, I ran my card up to the limit, paid it off immediately, and then repeated. My total charges for the month were almost four times my credit limit, but since I always paid the balance down right away, I never exceeded my credit limit. I received all the points I was due.
