I hate the idea of almost 600 PPs that I earned through flying UA preferentially are going to expire worthless, but I also can't tolerate the risk of giving them away to various strangers.
I would do it on a case-by-case basis, but the risk of someone saying something to CS, possibly indicating a quid-pro-quo arrangement (one nice FTer that I gave some PPs to offered to buy me a drink if he ever meets me), could cause the closure of my account and loss of my lifetime status.
For all of its flaws, MP is still a good overall program. The problem is that it isn't good enough to incentivize the pursuit of 1K/GS to the exclusion of other carriers. UA could fix this by making 1K PPs have higher priority than MUA UGs.
Gold is a valuable status and everyone should pursue that, if only for the free baggage, free E+ and international lounge access.
