I too was directed through the alternative one on my last arrival at the end of March this year and know of others as recent as last week. It's poorly signposted so keep a look out, or ask if you don't see it and the main area looks busy.
The alternative one is indeed poorly signposted, but if you just keep to the right hand side of the East immigration hall, you will see it (might have to duck under a tends barrier or two in the process though
).
I did know where it was as it was the only fast track for quite some time during Covid, but what puzzled me was the fact that the main one was blocked for crew
