Well the departure experience at LHR certainly beats the departure experience at MAN.

The train from Man Picc to MAN is easier than Euston to LHR, which requires at least one change or a medium length walk, but maybe that's OK compared to two long-ish Y flights.

Also you say the flights are similarly-priced - what happens when you add the price of the Avanti train?
