The only exception would be someone buying something with a $25-50 GC and I suspect that trying to buy an item with three or four $25-50 GCs would probably go through, although it may not.
I suspect that WM customers making > $600 purchases will almost always use credit cards or get a loan from their bank or CU. Even if we assume some unicorn buyer, they could always just wait until the card delay clears and then finish the purchase.
In regards to getting a refund, there is a DP in one of these threads where someone had a very large amount of VGCs (I think it was Simon GCs) and when they went south for redemption, demanded a refund and according the the poster, did in fact receive a check for the returned GCs.
So, I think that you certainly could try

I did in fact get a refund early in the spring, on about 6 or 8 Movies Everywhere cards that worked nowhere. Called them to complain and they offered a refund.
Don't know if i want to deal with this on 20-30 cards, except out of spite. It'll probably cause me more headache then just slow-burning the liquidation of these. I can swipe 2x200 here and there while shopping for groceries, etc.. and convert them all to Vanillas.
