Why is it so hard to buy a fully refundable ticket on AA?

I originally posted this in the Newbie Lounge, and nobody could answer. I'm hoping to have better luck here.

I'm extremely frustrated with the vague terminology on the AA site, and apparently so are many others. Bottom line: I need to book a ticket where a FULL REFUND will be issued to my credit card if I cancel (more than 24 hours after booking). I cannot understand why AA does not make it clear which types of "flexible" fares allow this. The listing for what's allowed on "Main Cabin Flexible," "Main Cabin Fully Flexible," is exactly the same:
  • Changes or refunds allowed
  • Choose your seat at no charge (fee may apply for Preferred, Main Cabin Extra or flights operated by another airline)
  • General boarding
  • Eligible for upgrades on American flights
Why does "First Flexible" cost less than "Main Cabin Fully Flexible?" I'm tempted to buy a First Flexible ticket since I'm paying a lot anyway, but need the ability to cancel for a full refund. Anybody know for sure what the difference is?
