Have you considered just ‘short checking’ a bag as far as KUL? You may need to explain to staff at KIX that you have a long layover and need some items before heading to JHB. I am assuming you have a suitable passport/visa to enter Malaysia, and that there is sufficient time to then collect the bag and check-in for the separate flight KUL-XXX.
