UPDATE to my previous post #1145^
So there's four readers at the MC, and I attempt to do a plain-jane BP. Give the cashier my card, and the screen shows the last four digits and the buttons, but the screen is frozen. Cashier tries the stylus, no go. So we cancel and retry. This time I get to swipe. Nothing happens. Try again. Nothing happens. Cashier sez to go down to the last reader at the end of the counter, which I've never seen a cashier use. It's a brand-new reader! (The other three are the old readers.) I say, that's one of the new ones, right? All she sez is "YEP". I swipe, no problemo.
Now if I were a conspiracy-theorist, which I'm not, I'd wonder if replacing all the readers at the SCOs and reg ckouts with new ones, but leaving the old broken down readers at the MC, is an attempt to thwart all you multi-swipers. It's random, but the odds of successfully getting through all four swipes is high.
Just a thought.
