My choice is Greece: Fly in Club Europe, into somewhere like Santorini. Bonus as there are Heathrow flights at nice times available. Then get a ferry to one or two smaller Greek islands like Sifnos, Sikinos, Amorgos or Folegandros. Local style hotels are generally fairly reasonable, and we could eat out at little Greek tavernas every night. Eat fresh fish. Swim & read.
My girlfriend's choice is somewhere in the Caribbean. Maybe St Lucia or maybe Grenada as there is availability. Hotels are a lot more expensive for something of an acceptable standard, and food is a lot pricier from experience. So more likely to want to self cater as this is an 'additional' holiday this year. Negatives are a much longer flight time, likely only economy availability. But it is a little more exciting than Greece where we have both been many times.
If this were your choice, and you were limited by the BA flights, where would you go? Club Europe to somewhere close or Economy to somewhere exotic?
We did the Greece trip for the family - 2 weeks and enjoyed it.
We did roll in a week of cruising the eastern Mediterranean on MSC which gave us access to 3 countries.
Remember, Santorini or Mykonos will be very expensive (2-3x) compared to Athens.
The islands can get boring due to limited traffic allowed on them and the touristy filled narrow streets...
My wife bought a handbag at LV in Venice:
