I had a non-success with this a decade+ ago on initial applications (nabbed one opening, they absolutely would not take the other even though we were both there and weren’t very nice about saying no). No idea if they’re being more accommodating now given the situation with the backlog…
I wouldn’t count on it especially because of the backlog unless the next appointment is a no show.
Based on single datapoint last summer, interview started on time and ended with a few minutes to spare before next appointment slot and interviewee was waiting. I don’t see how it would have been possible to squeeze in a family member without delaying the next appointment.
Keep in mind that both CBP and CBSA has to agree to accommodate this extra person so I wouldn’t expect being able to do this unless next appointment is no show.
