I seem to recall that the change to Silver or Gold was visible online in the EuroBonus web pretty much instantly after the flights which got me over the qualification limit were registered. I also remember that it took a day extra until my travel agent was able to use my EBG status to get me a ticket on a fully booked flight, his system was showing me as Silver a day longer than the SK system did.

Regarding the membership "pack", I got my cards within a few days of qualification. However, I guess the this may depend a bit on where the cards are sent from. I got my card from DinersClub since I have a co-branded DinersClub/EuroBonus card, I don't know if it takes longer to get the card directly from SK. Also I live in Sweden which might affect things a bit. I don't know where a card to someone in Australia would be sent from.
