Accor CS finally got back to me. This was the resolution:
As a resolution we are able to offer you two options. Please let us know which you prefer.
Option 1: If you would still like to receive the e-reader : We will offer a complimentary credit of 4,000 Reward points (value of 80 euros) so you can settle the customs tax yourself and be compensated in the form of Reward points.
Option 2: If you do not want to pay for the import tax and not receive the e-reader, we will offer 2,000 Reward points (value of 40 euros) as compensation for the inconvenience. Additionally, you will be able to choose a new gift among the 5 other options (Calm subscriptions / Pressreader subscription / Printemps shopping voucher / 2 options of donations).
They finally got back to me with option 1 only, since I had already paid the tax/duty. I was happy to accept the 4000 points and think it is fair.
