I like to have plenty of time to settle in to my seat, so if lounge boarding is a last minute thing is it worth leaving the lounge and going to the gate? Does gate boarding have a separate F/J queue?
Can't speak for LHR, but lounge boarding at JFK usually starts a bit later than general boarding downstairs. However it is a much more orderly boarding situation.
Everyone boarding from the lounge should be in F or J, as they generally announce for Y pax in the lounge to proceed downstairs to the main gate for boarding.
And as
eternaltransit mentioned, you will have more than enough time to get settled.
