I know the terms, but this question is more about how they technically provide the credit. I am thinking the main mechanism for enforcing the policy is that you can only make the reservation in the name of the cardholder on Amex travel. But in reality, the credit itself is automatically triggered by a charge hitting the account from AMEX FINE HOTELS - just like how any of the other merchant credit offers work. I doubt they are manually applying the $200 credit (but anything is possible).
So I am thinking if I make the FHR reservation via my account but charge to her card, the posting as AMEX FINE HOTELS will trigger it. But I have another option to book this reservation with a different though lesser discount - hence wondering if anyone has any experience with this scenario before I give it a try?
why not put both your name and your wife's name on the reservation, so either of you can check in alone, and just tell the hotel front desk the other person will come in later.
