This will be my first time booking a non-refundable flight through the Chase Travel web site. It's because for this ticket the non-refundable ticket is significantly cheaper than the "refundable" one.. and the "refundable" one doesn't even state what the fee would be.. so I guess I'm going for the non-refundable option. It's with Delta.. basic.. international flight.
I like to try to leave options open for myself even though it is non-refundable. When I called to ask some questions about the change policy on this ticket. The customer service said $200 per change which is obviously a lot for a $500 ticket. But she mentioned something else that caught my attention. She said that for a limited time that Chase Travel is offering something she called "future travel credit" if you call and ask for a "future travel credit" instead of cancelling it online (and losing the ticket).
Has anyone taken that option before? I'm just curious about how it works and trying to confirm some info that the customer service rep gave me over the phone. Wondering if this is correct or not..
So instead of cancelling the "non-refundable" ticket online with Chase Travel and losing the entire value of the ticket.. it sounds like instead I can call Chase Travel and say I want to take the "future travel credit" option. Is that right?
I asked more questions about it..
She said...
THe future travel credit would be valid for 1 year.. that any future flight booked with the future travel credit must be with the exact same airline (Delta in this case) on the exact same route.. does that make sense? is that info correct?
She said..
that the future credit would be worth the exact same value as the value I got now for the current ticket.. so $600 of value. Because I have CSR so I get 1.5x value on UR.. so it's around 40,000 points for the ticket.. she said the future travel credit will be based on the $600 of value.. is that correct info?
Because I might end up canceling my CSR later this year.. and thus I wondered whether it would still be worth the $600 of value even if I cancel my CSR. She answered yes.. but sounded a little unsure.. just curious if anyone knows
I really hate booking non-refundable flights. it sucks

but for whatever reason the flight on this date through Chase Travel was only 1/3rd of the usual cost.. so it's a good deal! but because I only have 100k Chase UR so definitely 40k points is a lot to me to lose.. so wanted to try to ask the community so I can feel more confident about the decision.
thank u
