The Virgin Atlantic lounge at JFK no longer accepts American Express Platinum for entry. They do accept Priority Pass. The entry rules are published here:

Three hour maximum stay rules are typically enforced by allowing entry three hours before flight departure, but you can ask for an exception if you agree to leave at noon. You could then go to another lounge which accepts Priority Pass.

Priority Pass lounges do not care if you are connecting, only if you have a same-day ticket. (Centurion Lounges do care about connections.)
