I thought that a companion upgrade could only be done when checking in at a human-manned station, but on my last trip from FLL to EWR, it was successfully perfomed at the kiosk. Even the agent was surprised, saying it must have been a software enhancement.

Not sure if it's been implemented across all kiosks nationwide though....
