I think what a lot of DL fans fail to remember is that UA's SF hub and their presence throughout the APAC region is because they bought Pan Am's entire division out there. It's not like UA built that from scratch. Similarly, DL's presence in Europe and AA's in LATAM is because they bought the assets and routes from airlines that were given monopolies in those geographies (Pan Am again and Eastern, respectively). All of DL's hub were bought, except SEA. So complaining that DL's network in the APAC region is weak compared to another airline isn't really fair.
