Anybody every gone trough the process of getting a fraudulent gift card replaced? Purchased a scam vanilla serviced by Incomm at Walmart on 6/8. Called right away and told I would get a replacement within 25-30 business days. Noticed today that I was refunded back to my credit card for the balance plus activation fee. I didn't ask either Walmart or my card issuer for a refund so I'm a little confused. It shows as a refund from Walmart. Did the store proactively refund me? i suspect that when you returned the GCs to them, rather than replace them, WM found it easier just to refund your purchase. Cheaper and faster, just like returning a broken item. Your possession of the GCs, the timing of the purchase and redemption and the probable location of the redemption (for example, you live in NYC, bought the card 6/1 and the redemption was done in LA on 6/1) probably made the return of your money that much easier for WM.
Greendot Bank has to deal with the fraud and refund WM the money they gave back to you. No different than if you bought a TV and returned it because it didn't work and you didn't want it anymore. WM duns the manufacturer to replace the money they gave back to you when you returned the TV.)
