Stayed here recently and generally enjoyed it, with a few important things to note that people need to be aware of.
Pros and cons below:
PROs
-Nightly rates here are usually quite a bit cheaper than being in central old part of Taipei, because it's much further away.
-3 min walk away from "Banqiao" MRT station on the blue colored "Bannan line" (station number "BL07"). Use EXIT NUMBER 2 next to "Banqiao bus station" and then cross the main road going towards the "Family Mart" convenience store. Be aware that "Banqiao" MRT station on the yellow colored "Circular line" (station number "Y16") is quite further away.
-Hotel staff and service was fast and efficient.
-Fairly new purpose built building with everything looking modern and up to date. Modern walk-in showers.
-Nice views from the higher floors
-At the moment this is the only Hilton family hotel in all of Taipei that DOES have a executive club lounge, which is located on the 27th floor. It includes an open air terrace with tables to eat outside if you want. Includes free beer, wine, and various spirits. However both food choice and food quality is not great. (See "cons" below) The Doubletree and Resonance (Tapestry Collection) in central Taipei both do NOT have a club lounge.
-Rooftop swimming pool on the 32 floor with great views. (See notes in "cons" section below on getting to floor 32)
-My room included free bottled water, and 4 soft drinks in the mini bar which were free of charge (1 coke, 1 sprite, 2 Chinese style ice teas, which were all replenished for free daily) Not sure if all rooms have the free soft drinks.
-All restaurants and the lobby bar in the hotel offer 20% discount to staying hotel guests if you give your room number when requesting the bill. There is an "a-la-carte" Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor which also offers this discount.
-There are various convenience stores in the roads around the hotel. Be aware "Family Mart" convenience stores in Taipei do NOT take western credits cards, so cash only. However 7-11 (seven eleven) convenience stores DO take western credit cards.
-There is a 24 hour coin laundry about 7 min walk away at No. 13號, Lane 158, Section 1, Zhongshan Rd, Banqiao District, New Taipei City, 220. It's on a small road diagonally across a 7-11 (seven eleven) convenience store. When walking there look for the HSBC bank on the corner of the main road on No. 160-5, Section 1, Zhongshan Road, Banqiao District, New Taipei City. Machines only take 10 TWD and 50 TWD dollar coins, so bring small change. Around 100 TD for washing and 50 TWD for drying.
CONs
-NOT a centrally located hotel. You will need to take the MRT (metro) or taxi to get to almost all the tourist sites. Lower nightly rates than staying in the city centre make up for this.
-Windows do NOT open for fresh air and there are NO rooms with a balcony or terrace. The club lounge DOES have an open air terrace with tables to eat outside though.
-Despite there being 6 (six !) different elevators it's always a bit of a wait.
-Rooftop Swimming pool is not huge. Kind of longish shape rather than wide squared shaped pool. Only 1 elevator goes to the 32 floor swimming pool, and it's a very long wait. Easier way to get to the roof top swimming pool is to use any elevator to go to floor 31, and then use the stairs in the central hallway to get to the the last floor. Use this method when leaving the swimming pool as well or you may wait 10 minutes for the elevator.
-The food at both breakfast and in the executive club lounge leaves a bit to be desired. Not a huge choice, and the quality is so-so. The food choices are heavily catered to Taiwanese and mainland China visitors with limited western choices, which is to be expected as they probably don't get that many non Chinese tourists. Nevertheless even the local asian dishes tasted bland and mediocre and I'm not a fussy eater usually. No dim-sum or fresh fruit juices at breakfast, and I often found myself skipping the evening club lounge food, and eating elsewhere, because it didn't look appealing.
Overall conclusion:
The out of the way location will not suit everyone, but the lower rates and nearby convenient transport links make up for that.
If the food choice and quality was better at breakfast and the club lounge this would be an almost perfect hotel.
