Apparently easyJet are now saying cancellation due to air traffic control issue. Would there be any mileage on the fact that one hour before cancellation they announced over the tannoy that the flight was delayed because they were trying to find a new captain?
It is for them to satisfy their ADR or the small claims court that it was indeed due to wx and not anything else. easyJet will have recorded the reasons for the cancellation and will have to satisfy them that running out of Pilots isn't anything they have a say over (which of course they do). There is a chance you were given duff info over the gate room PA, but I doubt that somewhat as they had an obvious cop-out excuse to use at the time and didn't.

Airlines will lie through their teeth to try and put you off claiming, if they reject your claim, ask for their final position to be stated and then proceed as per the brilliant advice of CWS via with two of the routes, further details and step by step guide in the appropriate 261 thread.
