Booking
Booked on points. Great value at around 35k/night (including 5th night free) for tourist season in Orlando. Rooms are studio suites (standard hotel room) and regular suites (separate bedroom).
Arrival & Check In
We arrived late, so we parked on the second floor of the parking garage. There is little-to-no signage on how to enter the property, and all exterior doors except the front entrance require a key. We trekked around to the front entrance and made our way in.
Front desk agent greeted us. No recognition of Diamond status. No explanation of breakfast location, schedule, etc. We were given two waters and directed to the elevators.
I asked about how to get into the hotel from the parking deck and was told there was an entrance on the second floor. There wasn’t. The entrance is on the first floor.
Room
We had a standard 1K suite. The room included a sofa-bed, two TVs, two independent HVAC systems, full size fridge, full size dishwasher, sink, cooktop, and table for two. There was plenty of space for a family of 3-4 to spread out.
Water pressure and flow was excellent. This hotel uses refillable/reusable bottles of shampoo, body wash, and conditioner affixed to the wall of the shower. Bar soap was also available.
Housekeeping
Housekeeping is on-demand, or once every 4-5 days. There were 2 small trash cans for each room which is insufficient for an extended stay hotel with long periods without housekeeping.
When we had our room serviced, it was done well, except they forgot to change out an empty reusable bottle of shower gel. Clear liquid in a grey bottle with a small sight-line leaves a lot of room for error.
Sleep Quality
Bed was plenty supportive. A/C worked relatively well, but was “smart” in that if it didn’t sense motion, it assumed no one was in the room. We’d set the thermostat to 68 each night and it rarely got below 70. I’d wake up in the middle of the night and wake-up the thermostat and it would kick the A/C unit back on. We were on a high floor near the end of a hallway. It was very quiet for us.
Breakfast
Breakfast is a free buffet for all guests. Offerings are Hampton Inn style eggs (one each day of scrambled, western omelets, or cheese omelets) , protein (one each day of sausage links, sausage patties, or bacon), waffles, cereal, fruit, and yogurt. Apple juice, orange juice, milk, and water are available. Breakfast hours are 6AM to 9AM. At 9AM, they shut the doors even if the dining room is full.
Pool
The pool facilities are excellent. There is a zero-entry section, deeper areas in the middle, and a nicely sized waterslide. The pool was consistently busy, but never crowded.
The majority of pool chairs were already sagging/sunken and will likely need replacement at the end of this season.
Pool Bar
The pool bar is nearby via a gate. Don’t forget your keycard or you’ll get locked out!
The drinks menu has no pricing, but cocktails are in the $8 - $12 range. Food was above average for this type of property.
They offer a refillable souvenir cup for $13 which we enjoyed. The menu says “future refills are discounted!” Throughout our stay, refills were free. On our last day, the bartender tried to sneak in a $16 refill charge which we immediately caught. He took off $6 “as a favor” but said the computer makes them charge that much. I pushed back pointing to where the menu says “discounted refills”. He shrugged me off. I relayed my feedback to the front desk manager. He apologized and said he’d make the F&B manager aware.
Miscellaneous
There is an onsite food/sundry shop. Pricing is opaque and you only know what an item costs when the front desk types it into their computer. 20-oz sodas were $3.00, 3-oz bags of chips were $3.00, 12-oz domestic beers were $7.00 and up.
This is a “Disney Gateway” hotel which means it’s located near a gate to the Disney World theme parks. There is a desk for Disney tickets and information, but it was never staffed.
There is a shuttle available, but it runs to/from each park once per day.
The nearby shopping center is easily walkable and includes several restaurants, a Target, and a dollar store.
The onsite laundry worked perfectly, if not a bit pricey at $2.50 per wash and $2.50 per dry.
The gym is large and full of equipment. The Peloton bike was out of order throughout our stay.
According to the front desk, keycards are required at every door due to an “open layout”. However, on 5 of our 8 days, we had to visit the front desk to get keys reprogrammed since they wouldn’t open a pool gate, restroom, or guest room.
Overall
Bang for your buck, it doesn’t get much better for families than a reasonably priced suite-style room for a trip to Orlando. The issue with the bartender sneaking in an exorbitant charge soured our impression on this otherwise excellent option in the Disney area.
