The Douglas continues to impress - while I have small nitpicks, this is easily the strongest suite upgrade I have received globally and the comfort here in the bed is top-notch. I'm glad that I returned to this property after a year. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:
Pros:
- Used a SNA to upgrade to a 1-Bedroom Suite when the hotel was mostly sold out online - this was approved about 4 days out - the evening before arrival, I noticed in app that my room type had changed to "The Loft" - a speciality penthouse - this upgrade stuck and was given at check-in
- The Loft is a massive two-story penthouse that includes access to the secret 17th floor - the first floor is one of 4 toilets, a piano, a fireplace, and a set of really comfortable couches - the 2nd floor is most of the suite with dining room, living room, rooftop terrace, bedroom with library, and 3 toilets (powder room, bathtub bathroom, and shower bathroom)
- The views towards BC Place are great - what an impressive stadium
- The bed is fantastic - super fluffy covers, fluffy pillows, and plush mattress (seemed much more plush than I remember)
- Shower pressure is quite good
- The Aesop toiletries feel bougie
- Really like most of the design - especially all of the books in the bedroom
- TVs have Internet TV OS
- Delivered a nice welcome gift of berries and cream filled large cream puff
- Interestingly, Elite breakfast here is still only in-room dining - the menu seemed slightly different than last year - both the pancakes were very good with nice syrup and the eggs and bacon were also quite tasty
- Service continues to be quire friendly at the front desk
Neutral:
- Was told at check-in that I couldn't have late checkout because of the suite - frankly, this is reasonable IMO
- Received multiple credit card hold pre-auths, but no billing issues or charges at checkout (I stayed on points)
- Yes, the hotel has a noise isolation problem - no, it really didn't bother me in the room despite multiple "private events"
Cons:
- Seemingly, only 2 of the 4 Douglas elevators were in service during my stay
- General jerkiness that comes with "private events" - I stepped outside in the Park section (no signs, doors unlocked, no other people around - just empty space) to take some photos of the beautiful trees and was rudely approached by some person from several meters away to be told off that there was a private event and that I couldn't be there - I approached hotel staff inside who claimed there shouldn't have been an issue in the space I was in - regardless, the hotel should put up signs for all areas that guests run the risk of being scolded at by ridiculous "event people"
Overall, I look forward to returning.
