Rather haphazardly, they had her fill out a paper form, shrugged, and eventually mentioned it could be delivered to her hotel. About an hour later, we were able to see that her bag actually went to EDI thanks to an AirTag.
- The sketchy looking paper form they ripped off and gave to her has a swissport email, is it worth trying to deal with Swissport about this or should we aim to talk directly with Aer Lingus?
- What, if anything, should/can we do with knowledge the bag is in EDI? I’d rather not have them just look in vein around DUB and then proclaim it lost, but I’ve heard some airlines don’t respond well when presented with info from an AirTag.
- Are there any airline specific forms or procedures to follow regarding purchasing replacement clothes etc. while she’s without to ensure proper compensation?
1. You'll need to file a claim with Aer Lingus that your luggage is missing. Swissport may have processed the claim for you, and should have given you a claim number you can provide, but better safe than sorry.
2. You can can tell them you've tracked it to EDI, but that likely won't be much use.
3. I would be realistic, but your ability to replace your clothes is relatively flexible based on the Montreal Convention. You could theoretically spend up to 3900 EUR or so, although something that wouldn't be likely used on your vacation would come under some scrutiny. Purchase what you need - clothing, toiletries - for your trip. If you're going to the beach, get swim attire and a cover-up. (Probably not in Leeds?) If you're going to a business meeting and had a suit packed in your bag, go buy a suit.
