It doesn't really matter.

If you find a J award seat on TK.com there's no guarantee that a partner FFP can book it as an award or upgrade. The only thing checking on TK does is let you know when there is definitely NO award / upgrade space.

This might seem odd, but the advice to check on TK is basically given because too many people rely on Expertflyer only, which can show phantom availability at times.
