This thread is just such a good reason not to go on holiday in the US. Not just the credit itself but the whole attitude in the service industry whereby the guest is made to feel like the establishment is doing them a favour by being open.
It really depends a lot from where, in US. My last US trip was from Montana to South Dakota visiting a lot of national parks/monuments on the way. All Hilton booked where Hampton Inn and they were more than adequate, with nice staff. Same for the previous Californian deserts trip. Next trip will be in Texas for the annular eclipse, and it will be all Hampton Inn again. The Hilton F&B credit problem is, IMHO, in the big cities or super popular resorts.
