I'm always amused by these threads but the answer is always "They've decided it's not the most profitable use of their planes and employees based on detailed data analyses by people paid to assess these things, taking into consideration their partner airlines, and regardless of whether John Q. Flyertalk thinks the airline should have a different route network and fly to "alpha cities.""

It's also pretty weird to mention Kuala Lumpur, given that there are no flights from KUL to the U.S. on any airline, which should be an obvious indication that it isn't some obviously high demand, high fare destination that can't be served by connections.
