I have booked my father (who has no status) & myself (Gold) on a 2-for-1 to YVR, and put him in 1A both ways (while I take 1E on the outbound & 2A on the inbound).
My concern is that they bump his 1A seat due to his lack of status, if that seat is blocked for golds only.
As you're on the booking and are Gold I thought it just meant you had access to 1A and could assign it as you saw fit to people within your booking? (i.e., it let you put him there so it should be all good) - assuming the restriction does indeed apply to those flights
