JAL does appear to have a Middle Name field although it is not asterisked as required. However, up top there's a link to 'About the passport name' and within that it states to enter your middle name (if any). Certainly not the clearest instructions and probably leads to unnecessary worry for some travelers.
They did fix that part with the latest iterations of the website and I did not notice. The danger of just having these things auto completed via the account details. One part of the issue solved.
