Amex travel checkout presents you a drop down of your cards, but upper right you can choose to enter another card manually. Since the reservation could be canceled/refunded, I gave it a try.
Charge posted as AMEX FINE HOTELS. Took a couple days to go from pending to posted. FHR $200 credit posted one day later.
Thanks for the datapoint. Like you did, I also assumed that the credit would automatically be triggered when an FHR booking charge is detected which is precisely what happened to you. Good to know this can be done.
I don't recall the charge showing what the name on the booking is so I doubt that matters in receiving the credit.
