Only tangentially related to the basic question, but, Global Entry at DFW with a recent fully-enabled U.S. passport is by optical scanner. It took me longer to take off my glasses for the optical screen than it took it to welcome me home. Line time and transit to your ongoing gate are less predictable.

I have no idea if ORD has the most recent technology, and I only had a rollaboard and a backpack. I think I was on the curb 15 or 20 minutes after I got off the plane.
