I got the dreaded popup when I applied for the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card today. I thought this only happened to other people, but now I got put in AMEX SUB jail. I have never had a Marriott Bonvoy card with AMEX or Chase. I used to have an SPG card with AMEX (which I loved) several years ago. I have a Personal Plat (7+ years), Personal Delta Plat (3+ years), and a Business Blue Plus (almost 4 years). I had a Personal Gold Card for about 3 years, but canceled a couple of years ago. All bills paid on time. I never applied just for an AMEX card with a sign-up bonus and split before the first annual fee was due. When I called Customer Service, they didn't have the tools or resources to provide a real explanation. I would love to know why AMEX made me ineligible for a sign-up bonus. If anyone knows the eligibility criteria for a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant SUB beyond previous Bonvoy cards held, I would be grateful if that information can be shared.
