I suspect that QR would say that they are selling you a ticket from A to B, and that it is the shortest available option between those two points that counts, rather than via any preferred routing or transit points. Codeshares etc make it all less straightforward to work out than only QR operated, but again I suspect all airlines would argue that codeshares etc are in passengers interests by allowing wider networks and faster routings from A to B.
