Of course who knows what happens in over a year - but these days with a little bit of advance booking you can fly NYC-SIN for well under $1500 return - in Premium Economy on Singapore Airlines. Nothing I would spend points on. You add a positioning flight in the US and an Air Asia flexible ticket (includes decent seat, less decent food, some baggage allowance and two free changes) from SIN to DPS for $150 or less. Now, with 550K points you should be able to get two business class awards - from a LH or LX gateway city for example at 110K one way - you might be able to get a UA positioning flight, if necessary in Y as well. I would for sure recommend the Air Asia SIN-DPS option. TK, SIN, TG, ANA and I think EVA Air fly to DPS - I have never seen award space in J on those flights when I looked - but you can set the alarm for the right time when availability gets published
