I remember traveling to Nashville probably 10 years ago or whenever the MX915s were new and only some Krogers had them. The pinpad back then looked exactly the same except it did not have the "tap" language but it had the four circles/green dot thing and Contactless worked the same way then that it works now as far as transaction speed goes. So it is funny how Kroger had this at limited stores a long time ago then eliminated it now it is back again.
ALSO, I went to a Shell with Wayne Pumps/Verifone Registers. This Shell now has working EMV Contactless at the Pump. It is actually a little bit slow and it does not ask you if you want to join Fuel Rewards after you tap the way it does if you insert card. This is the only Shell in my area with this pump/register configuration.
I have a few ideas of why they did finally a lot of people asked for it and most credit/debit cards have it by now. Kroger Pay also failed to gain traction which we all knew it would. Interesting story and not surprising since Toshiba comes with contactless by default. Reminds me a bit of Hy-Vee 10 years ago who had just got new MX915s and it had contactless enabled for a short time but then they disabled it until 2019.
Thanks for reminding me to check out a Shell with Wayne Anthem pumps the ones with the giant screens which had no contactless enabled the last time I visited that station. I still haven't seen a Shell with contactless on Gilbarco pumps as it still shows the not supported when tapped but it appears to be working in Colorado.
