FYI this was incorrect. mixed carrier awards cannot be changed to CX only award. Called the english line and they basically told me to do it online. Mandarain line was better and helped hold the tickets while they processed the cancel / rebooking.

Im guessing rebooking means a change of date, and reissue means change of origin / destination? I suppose the distinction is less important now that the fee is the same
