Hell, Amex and Chase even have credit card lounges in HKG airport, the latter of which just opened recently, so the credit card companies clearly think there is a future there...
WeChat privacy concerns are valid because it's fundamentally a chat app, but it's possible to use it for payments only. Meanwhile, Alipay doesn't really have a social component.

Sure, if you made a habit of using either for expensive "massages", this could theoretically haunt you, but if you stick with 711s and restaurants, what's the big deal wrt "privacy"?
