I’m no Singapore expert but I did stay in the Shangri-La last month. We had originally booked the Treetop theme room and they switched us to the Space themed room because of repairs. My wife and kids (3 and 5) stayed for 4 nights.
The stay was fantastic. Breakfast was convenient and very good. The suite consists of a room with a bunk bed (must be full size beds or maybe queens, not sure). There’s also another room for a nanny connected to the kids room. The main room has a king bed. Both rooms have sitting areas, and some other amenities like a bean bag chair. Highly recommended. Although while we were there, we noticed a leak from the ceiling in the kids’ bathroom. Very slow, just once every few minutes and it happened to drop in the toilet. But I don’t know if it was related to the other room being repaired.
The only downside was that on our last night, someone with a very persistent crying kid moved in next door. Which I guess is what you get for staying on a floor for families with little kids.
The location is a bit of a trek to the main shopping and transportation. It was fine for me, about a 10 minute walk down the hill, but I wasn’t going to do it in the heat with the kids. So we just took cabs everywhere. With 4 people it was probably not too much more expensive but much more convenient. They always had someone calling cabs for you at the front so it was never more than a 5-10 minute wait. Getting a cab back was a bit more difficult. I had trouble getting my credit cards linked with the taxi app, and because our kids would have needed car seats, we were technically limited to the Grab Family which was hit or miss. Finding a hotel with a doorman was the easiest way to get a cab.
The water park area was decent, although the kids only used it a bit. The indoor playground area was great for our kids although maybe too limited for an 8 year old.
We only really tried the lobby restaurant, as we spent most of our time eating out. The bakery was nice to pick up some food for the mornings when the kids were awake at 4 am due to jet lag.
