3) Basically, you used a local number to register an AliPay account, and verified it with your passport. The you linked a foreign Visa for purchase... and for you cash balance, you had friends transfer the fund to you?
4) I understand the concept of you scan merchant's QR versus merchant POS scan your QR, but how do you decide or set whether the transaction use your cash balance or linked foreign card?
5) Did you download the local version of AliPay or the global version from Android Play/iOS store? WeChat clearly has a local versus global version, but I can't tell whether AliPay has different versions or same version for China and global.
2- You can’t get hit twice. Tourcard (I think) loads your balance so you pay 0 fee for any transaction. The large purchase fee is only with foreign credit card. With balance there is 0 fee.
3- Yes
4- Answered above
5- I only have Mainland China App Store on iPhone. In Alipay (in English), I can go Me (bottom right tab) -> Settings -> Switch Version -> Standard OR International (for non-Chinese Mainland users). I am currently using the Standard version. I don’t know if this toggle exists in other App Store versions.
