Where it becomes an issue is if any of those countries require visas or electronic travel approvals. A few years ago, when I was about to leave on a transatlantic cruise from Rome I was chatting online with other passengers. A couple from Australia had their passports stolen. They were going to be able to get replacement passports in time to board the cruise, but the emergency documents wouldn't satisfy the requirements for entry into the US under the visa waiver program, so they weren't going to be allowed to board. They lost out on the cruise and the following weeks of travel they had booked within the US.
