Terrible experience, but the above point is actually just the rules. You are only permitted to access a lounge based on your inbound flight if that flight is in First Class, otherwise it's based on your class of travel, so they were in Y to Dublin and were not permitted to use the lounge . This is the correct interpretation of the rules, so you can remove it from your list of bad things, because almost every airline operates the same way.
