SEMMA - New York City

Semma is an authentic south Indian restaurant. It is the only Indian restaurant in the US to have earned a Michelin . The chef, Vijay Kumar, was formerly at Michelin-starred Rasa in Burlingame, Calif. The restaurant is fairly small. Reservations are hard to get, they are released at midnight NY time a month in advance and are gone in seconds. The food is excellent and is quite different than the north Indian/Punjabi food that is commonly served in Indian restaurants in the US. The service, while friendly and efficient, is nothing special.

Mulaikattiya Thaniyam - sprouted mung beans, coconut, smoked chili

Gunpowder Dosa - rice & lentil crepe, potato masala, sambar

Mangalore Huukosu - cauliflower, garlic, byadgi chili, coconut chutney

Attu Kari Sukka - lamb, black cardamom, tellicherry peppers, mace

Matka Paan Old-Fashioned - Bourbon, Paan, Domaine de Canton, Rose, Coconut Ice, Aged in Matka

Goanese Oxtail - angus oxtail, green cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, cilantro

Mirchi Ka Salan - stuffed long peppers, sesame seeds, peanuts

Elaneer Payasam - tender coconut, coconut milk, coconut water, cashews, raisins, ghee

Alphonso Mango - mango custard, mango pachadi, fresh mango (seasonal special dessert)
