Hello Copa forum colleagues!
We have a similar discussion regarding our Maple Leafe Lounges in the Air Canada forum.
I recently transited through Panama and used the T2 lounge at Toucoumen.
I found the space nice enough but was packed and lacking seating in the mid - late afternoon.
I was also surprised at the abysmal food offerings.
To be clear, the staff that I interacted with were fantastic. All of them were professional, friendly and eager to help- this is already a huge asset to Copa & Panama, so that is a positive thing.
It sounds like the lounge that Copa operates is quite saturated with eligible entrants ranging from paid entry, credit card holders, business class ticket holders, and status members + other Star Alliance passengers. This is almost the same situation with the Air Canada lounges.
A suggestion many people made on the Air Canada forum was to follow a model similar to Lufthansa, where you essentially operate a 2 (or 3) tiered lounge system:
Tier 1: Business class ticket holders & highest status members of Copa Airlines & equivalent level at partner airlines (example, Super Elite with Air Canada)
Tier 2: Paid entries, eligible credit card holders & priority pass
The Tier 1 lounge offer proper food options, premium drink options, shower facilities and other value-added amenities.
The Tier 2 lounge offer improved food options but is limited to salads, sandwiches, soups & lighter bites. Basic drink services with premium options are available at an upsell.
